Hinterland

„Hinterland“ is a captivating dance performance that explores the intersection between the Ballroom and Voguing subcultures with contemporary dance. The three performers – Zero Angels, Kelly Heelton, and Julia Monschau – take the audience on a journey through the border areas between club and stage, posing important questions about the effect of Ballroom culture and Voguing on contemporary dance’s movement vocabulary. In the context of the LGBTQIA+ community’s struggle for recognition, the performers use voice, music, and a multi-layered movement vocabulary to explore how identity manifests. The conflict between one’s personal identity and social recognition is portrayed through the exchange of movement styles, blurring physical boundaries to highlight the multifaceted richness of each individual. With stunning choreography, powerful music, and an engaging narrative, „Hinterland“ is a thought-provoking and dynamic exploration of identity, community, and self-expression through movement that challenges and inspires audiences.
